West Ham have beaten a host of clubs to the signature of 17-year-old Icelandic centre-half Hólmar Örn Eyjólfsson according to reports.

Reports in today's Icelandic press confirm that United have won the race to sign the highly-rated young defender, who was also interesting Bayern Munich, amongst others.

Both Fotbolti and Visor have confirmed this morning that the Hammers have agreed an undisclosed fee with Eyjólfsson's current club, HK Kópavogur.

The defender made his debut for HK in the Icelandic Premiership aged just 16, and is already a regular for his nation's under 21s although he also featured for the under 17s and under 19s last season.

In addition to featuring regularly at international level Eyjólfsson was named in UEFA's team of the tournament at last year's under 17s Championship where he was deployed in a defensive midfield role, a position he is equally comfortable in.

Fotbalti also confirm that Eyjólfsson spent a week on trial with United back in February, and after rejecting an initial offer he has since agreed terms with the club.
